Kauai Gardens

A visit to Allerton Gardens (Lawa 'i Kai) on Kauai. Our tour guide was Bob, he was awesome! At first we were trying not to act like tourists but, turns out that's hard to do when you are. We had fun with it in the end.
There were plenty of really cool water features in the Allerton Garden.
Ideas!!!
This water sculpture was super cool! It's 100 feet long with 3% grade and along with the scalloped edges, it had ballasts at the narrow sections.
The engineering causes the water to pulse by the time it reaches the other end.
This pool was great for reflection. haha
A natural water feature was the river that turned brown when the rains stirs it up. Watch for Captain Jack Sparrow, he's around here somewhere. The filming of Pirates of The Caribbean took place on this river and in the gardens.
Turns out some of the Jurassic Park eggs hatched from these Banyan trees and there are a few dinosaurs running loose in the area.
Back to being a tourist!
Some of the flowers interesting and huge.
Hey, is that a common house plant growing on that tree? Yup!
The fruit orchard looks different than mine, hmmm? That grapefruit is huge!
The cherries are pretty cool, too.
Across the island is another garden, Limahuli Garden and Preserve. This garden is the remnant of the ancient Hawaiians who terraced using lava rocks to grow Taro (Kalo).
The water system is pretty cool, makes me want to play around with terracing.
Of course, there are more plantings.
Some tropical birds of paradise... nope, its a chicken.
An enormous fern!
Home sweet home!
And a spider.
